Happy National Train Your Dog Month!
Did you know January is National Train Your Dog Month? It’s true! And as dog trainers, we love this month because it gives us a chance to help all those “Christmas puppies” that were adopted out or bought from breeders before Christmas 🙂 If you haven’t celebrated this month before, maybe you should this year if Santa brought a new dog to your home for Christmas 😉
So, what’s the history? According to their website, the Association of Professional Dog Trainers started the campaign in 2010 to bring awareness of the importance of training and socialization – and that it could be fun! They chose January because of all the dogs that were adopted or purchased from breeders and brought home before the winter holidays. Plus, it timed well with “starting the new year off right” with a new four-legged addition 😉
Let’s face it – as new dog owners, you’ve also had a chance to try training your puppy and are now realizing you may need some additional help.
